Field of Dreams: Sitting in his parents Aptos home, Eric
Kubota slowly opens a black jewelry box revealing an
Oakland Athletics World Champion Ring. Inscribed on the
ring is the name "KUBOTA." Though, you will never find his
name on the Oakland A's roster, Kubota did play an instrumental
roll in the Oakland A's Championship Teams successes of
the eighties and nineties. Entering his 18th season with
the Athletics organization, Eric Kubota has recently been
promoted to Director of Scouting for the Oakland Athletics.
He began his career with the Athletics
in June of 1984 while an undergraduate at the University
of California, Berkeley. Kubota spent his first seasons
in the Club's Media Relations Department. In November
1989, Kubota joined the A's Baseball Operations Department
as an Assistant Director of Scouting. In 1996, Kubota
was elevated to the position of Pacific Rim coordinator
where he became the liaison between the club and Asian
baseball teams, in addition to handling scouting duties
in Northern California and Hawai'i. A Hawai'i Chamber
of Commerce of Northern California member and avid fly
fisherman, Eric grew up in the sleepy town of Aptos
California about 30 miles south of San Jose. Kubota
now resides in Roseville, California with his wife Karen
who is formerly from Kaua`i. We congratulate Eric Kubota
for being a winner on and off the field!
