NOWEMAPA/NOVEMBER 2008
On
tap for this month:

"E Komo Mai" by HCCNC President Eric Tao
Aloha everyone,
Thank you so much for all of you who participated in our annual survey, which is such an integral part of our annual board retreat.
We found that you, like us, are growing older and more and more people are considering moving back to Hawai’i. Possibly it’s an age thing or possibly it’s the economy. In any case, it means one thing: the HCCNC needs to do more to help connect everyone in its extended ohana; and to that end, the board has made a commitment to secure an event every month and it will be scheduled far in advance... please stay tuned and clear your Third Thursdays of each month for 2009!
We will also endeavor to help people get to know each other better. With the economy the way it is, we all need to do like my favorite restaurant, HUKILAU!!! (pull together!). To do so, we need to be better educated on the capabilities of our community members and see each other more often, so at our networking events, we will be spending more time finding out what everyone does... and still having a great time.
Please support our business members, and as always, email me at etao@hccnc.com for any suggestions or questions....
Mahalo,
President

HCCNC President's Luncheon Recap
Our annual Bay Area Presidents’ Luncheon, a University Liaison program, once again
has been a successful outreach program for our Bay Area Hawai’i clubs. The Aloha
Spirit is thriving and alive spreading among the lives of the Hawai’i clubs’ college
students. It is one of our vital component to promote culture, community, education
and future leaderships as role models for the Hawaiian community as well as having
fun at the same time.
Attendees enjoyed a glorious day as we gathered at the San Francisco Hukilau restaurant, college students and Board members appreciated meeting both Bay Area and Hawaii college students and people from Hawaii who went to school in the Bay Area now working here. The students also had an opportunity to learn more about the HCCNC, the Scholarship Program, the Mentorship Program and other resources.
The Hawai’i clubs agreed to plan a 2009 Bay Area college picnic and HCCNC will work together in partnership to support this event. A number of ideas such as combining a Job Fair with a day picnic and ending up with a concert in the evening are a few of the possibilities.
Colleges represented at the 2008 Presidents’ Luncheon included San Jose State University, St. Mary’s College, Santa Clara University, Stanford University, UC-Davis and UC-Berkeley.
Our next Presidents’ Luncheon is scheduled in October 2009. Contact Elise Tran, College Liaison, elise.tran@gmail.com or Karen A. Castillo, Co-Ordinator & HCCNC Foundation Board Member at karen@hccnc.com for more information.
